garage sale gods were smiling...

don't you just love it when you driving along and you see that sign....you know the one..the hand drawn cardboard "garage sale" sign!
well not only did I see that sign , I saw about 14 of them!!!...that's right unbeknown to me my sweet little town was having a town garage sale (how I missed that memo I will never know!!)

I found the first one by simply taking the garbage out....I glanced up the road and spotted the sign and some balloons....being neighbourly and all off I scooted. some treasures were found , neighbourhood news was exchanged and best of all I was given a map....yep map!...of all the other participants of the garage sale palooza!

a phone call later mum arrived wearing sensible shoes and a handbag of small notes...dad was just wearing one of those weary smiles. the kids dragged him off into kidland and mum and I hit the road.
we had a lot of fun and were shockingly restrained?!

this yellow west german vase below was not being left behind.. $3!. and a few more green books for my collection at 50c each.

isn't she lovely!!....Im now the proud owner of two WG`s....aiming for another of course.

I adore old silver....especially the battered and bruised.
this little fatty was $3 and I cant wait to see her stuffed with camellias.

a fab old blue and white enamel tureen...$5. there were two of these so mum and I bought one each.
the lady selling them said she bought them from an antique shop in Canberra 40 years ago and never got around to re enamelling them....thank goodness!....the rust is my fave bit. oh and the knob!

she was a little hard to photograph but the blue colour is amazing.

mum bought me this little deco nut dish for $5 and the wicker tray for $2.

meet Beverly!!...my absolute smash hit of the day. $3 and Bev was mine. I could of cried when the lady of the house told me it was given to her as a wedding present almost 60 years ago. its by Wedgwood and will hopefully be with me for 60 years!! ( only making me 103 years old by then but hey!)

the orchid cake plate and the jug were a $1 each and I napped a pile of old linen for $5.
what a day , the garage sale gods were smiling
I was smiling
mum was smiling
the kids were smiling
dad?...well dad was limping but still smiling!

oh the stuff we left behind!!...I`ll probably have nightmares about them but I already have at least six fixarupperers in the shed....sometimes you just have to leave it behind...damn it!!
garage sales are few and far between around here and the town garage sale is hoping to be an annual event.....which I for one am happy about.
it definitely made up for the lack of op shopping lately. work is getting in the way!

sharing with the lovely Max

  12. Yep, Al, you'd better get that BIG shed built before next year's TGS, eh!
What fab finds - I'm partial to those sturdy blokey West German pieces (in a nice way) but your classy Beverley takes the cake (or casserole) .. isn't she a treasure? Such a sweet story that accompanied her, too. She looks very "Great Gatsby" era, with her elegant art deco arms and hat.
