who doesn't love a little link up?...well I for one do, and no one better to link with than kylie and donna....the beautiful hosts of hung up on retro
they are celebrating what we all love and obsess over ( yes obsession...admit it! )
its time for a little peek into some corners of my home. the important corners, the corners that I love the most
if you were to visit our humble abode (come on over!) I would welcome you through our front door which is actually our back door but we use it as our front ( I think its an Aussie thing?)
and actually I wouldn't greet you first...you would first be licked to death by our ferocious Labrador and security checked by the poodle. (ie sniffed to within an inch of your life!)
yes the vintage cases are full to the brim with treasure, and yes ive forgotten what that treasure looks like. the old cupboard was an ebay bargain which my dear wife painted for me. it houses more treasures....you can never have too many.
we would have a cuppa of course and I would tell you all about my fabbo bread bin. it was an ebay find as well. its a german pharmaceutical prop...apparently for cough lollies. I see this corner at 5am everyday...its etched into my brain.
not a tea drinker? well how about a coffee?
the second most looked at spot by me is the coffee machine ...not vintage I know but the pretties underneath sure are...see the blue enamel tureen....that was last weekends garage sale find...well one of them.
the huge soup pot gets used!....when you have a chef in the family soup is done on a massive scale.
my lounge room of course has many great spots....we are lucky enough to have a huge open fireplace!...where I store vintage tins....of course.
I love cake tins...and cake (duh!). our fireplace is serving as storage at the mo and damn it, the cold is creeping up and im going to have to find an alternative pretty soon. Ebay anyone??.
movin on down the hallway...
this trashed often used corner is kidsville...toys , dress ups and just general kid mess really. the hatstand thingy was made by a friend from a silky oak wardrobe door. I have clever friends.
I use the leather bag on the left....ive even had offers to buy it right off my shoulder. it was an oppy find ($3!!).
this is the opposite wall , covered in just some of my favourite vintage cross stitches and art.
the "happy" pic not vintage but it never fails to get people to sing that song (you just did didn't you...see!)
this is the guest bedroom...
the bed was a find from ebay (as is a lot of my house!). one of my favourite Vernon Wards graces the wall (oppy) and my adorable "frock shop" mirror also oppy. the chair was a gift and more op shop art to gaze at.
below is Frankies room...spot the adorable dolls up there ( big eyes...yeah I know they freak you out Pippa!). 1$ each at a garage sale a while back. And the maggie and the kookaburra where an oppy find and only $2 each. poor kid is surrounded!...no doubt she will insist on a minimalist décor in her own home!! the hutch and wardrobe where roadside finds.
below is another favourite, its my "inspiration" wall. Niccy made me this large frame. it has wire threaded through with metal and wooden pegs. all my wonderful bibs and bobs are thrown upon it....whatever is tickling my fancy. photos, kids art, vintage hats and purses, doyleys , plates linen and of course a baby jesus or two....theres even a tiara hanging there.
it changes often and to my eye is a joy to behold.
ok out the front/back door you go!
ive got some suitcases to dig through!!
go check out other fab vintage/retro lovers here and here
thanks to Zara, now im sharing here as well

Oh gosh Allison your home is stunning.
ReplyDeleteLove your style.
x
Your house is such a beautiful, happy place, full of personality and love...and treasures everywhere you look. It's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHi Allison, My goodness, love it all. Especially the kookaburra and magpie oil paintings, that was a great score, Edwardian no doubt. I like your inspiration board too. Thanks for sharing, Tam x
ReplyDeleteOh Allison, what a lovely tour of your gorgy house that was:) I'm soooooo very pleased you've popped on over to my blog and joined in. It's my first proper linky thingy and I was pretty nervous that no one would turn up, so thanks so much for not leaving me there on my lonesome:) I love your house and I think I would so love to have it on my Guest Nest feature which I do once a month. Hint Hint. nudge nudge. Wink wink. No pressure or anything;)
ReplyDeleteI've just become your newest follower. How lovely to meet more kindred vintage lovelies. xx
Wow Allison, so many lovely things here. I especially love the cupboard, your timber floors, door, inspiration wall, and..... and I did sing the song! xxoo
ReplyDeleteDear Allison, your home looks so inviting ans special to me. So full of light and love ( I belive). xx
ReplyDelete'Clap your hands' song, just about sums you and your home up Al! Such love in those walls, adopt me!
ReplyDeleteYou have allways wanted a macramé making daughter! ....I don't have big eyes! ;)
Thanks so much for the walk through Al. Just as vibrant and fun as I would have expected. For me that inspiration wire frame made by your wife is just tops - she is a keeper it seems. mel x
ReplyDeleteSquealing with joy over your beautiful home. Heavenly. Xx
ReplyDeleteLove it all Al, so gorgeous all of it! Especially that bed! With those pillowcases, move over guests, Sherby's about to move in! You have got such a great eye. Can you pack the tins into the suitcases before the firewood arrives? They remind me so much of my Nan, as does that fantastic red hat. xx
ReplyDeleteI like your tooled leather bags they would look nice with my collection just kidding your home is beautiful love all the art work and old tins :)
ReplyDeleteOne thing I know for sure Allison, is that anyone who pops in to your place for a cuppa is going to leave with a great big fat smile on their dial. Your house is lovely, I want to have a sleep-over in that guest bedroom - I'm glad to see you decided against re-painting that gorgeous old mirror btw (I remember that post...) You know I love everything, but special mention goes out to the maggie and kookaburra paintings in your little girl's room, they are very special (love my vintage Australiana) and what a bargain! Loo's squealing with joy, Pippa's capping her hands and I'm thrlled to bits you joined in our linky x
ReplyDeleteHi Allison! I love your home! Every corner is truly lovely. I'd like to come into your home and go on a looting spree. The leather tooled handbag would be snatched up first, swiftly followed by some cross stitches & the happy sign on the opposite wall. A couple of tins (particularly the red lid rose one). And I'd probably have to bring Pippa with me in order to get the beautiful old ebay cupboard out the door and in the van. : )
ReplyDeleteI really love the colour in your home. I agree with Dana that it looks so happy and bright. Thank you so much for joining in today. Much appreciated. : )
I keep meaning to photograph my home like this and show it off but then it turns into a game of, "As soon as I change this one thing.. then this.. oh wait lemme get a thing for that.." and on and on until I end up moving.
ReplyDeleteOh deary me mumma, I'm hopping on a bus (because I can't relax whilst driving) and I'm leisurely going to absorb myself in a good book and when I arrive I will be ready for a nap in the guest room. When I wake a cuppa will be fabulous and I hope there is some cake hiding in those cake tins. Once I've regained my energy I think I'd have a wonderful time playing in the kids area and rooms. When it came time to leave I might sneak away with something leather and fabulous hanging off my shoulder lol.
ReplyDeleteLoved the tour honey, I want to visit right now.
Great tour! Loved your nooks and crannies. What a fabulous party, yes? Your leather bag is such a find. May sneak away with it.
ReplyDeleteI love your space - such great vintagey goodness! :)

ReplyDeleteOooh I love your home!!! Where to start?? Firstly I love the cupboard in your kitchen I would climb on top of some apple cases and old ladies for that one (ps really enjoyed your last post!!). Then there's the breadbin-love!! All the tins, oh me oh my! Then the very delicious hatstand, one clever crafter!! The bedrooms, wall art etc etc. I love it all!! Thanks for your lovely comment over at mine I'm pleased its given mum some inspiration for feeding the birds. I like your blog so very pleased you've stopped by as going to follow you xo
