nature in the nest...

warning pic overload!!...but please humour me, these are the first blooms I have been able to harvest from my own humble patch in an age. yes they are just gerberas and lavender leaves but to me they are fit to decorate the royal wedding. I was up in these girls faces like nobodies business.

a few artsy fartsy ones....for arts sake of course!

im pleased I picked them when I did as we had a top of 35 here yesterday and a cracker of a storm came rolling in ( not that I knew cause I was at the pictures, seeing the impossible - which was great by the way, not usually a naomi fan, always thought she was drab, shes now fab)

anyhoo the storm did a little number on the yard, nothing major like Suse had. you know just enough to mess it up (and with my head!)

the day ended with me gazing at a black stormy sky with a rainbow...ahhh don't you just love a happy ending.
to keep it real....Frankie came home with nits! ( any tips?)

Axx

check out lous lovely little green shed (my inspiration!)

  1. Ah, gorgeous! And I love the vintage books too :-) I saw the trailer of The Impossible at the gym (of all places) and almost lost my shit, had to gulp back tears. Might be a watch at home one for me, I'm one of those ugly criers!! Bxx

  2. Are those asters...zinnias? Either way, they're beautiful. I'll never forget the first time my daughter came home with head lice. I totally freaked out and called the pediatrician for a prescription. He told me over-the-counter stuff would work just as well, but I wouldn't hear of it. I'll never forget combing the nits out of her thick, waist-length hair with that tiny, tiny comb. Hours and hours of work, I tell you! I had always thought only kids with dirty hair got lice, but I've since learned that clean hair is easier for them to hold onto. We had an outbreak of lice at a high school where I taught, and we had to check every head in the place. Not one of the most enjoyable days of my teaching career, I can tell you.

  5. Beautiful flowers! On the nits front, (I scratch at the mention of them), shampoo with tea tree oil in is suposed to be a good detterant. Im in the UK and we have a brand of expensive nit combs that actualy work! They have a rounded end on the spikes, (I cant think of the correct name), and grooves up them as well, which encourages eggs up and out. Good luck, there is nothing worse! x

  6. You crack me up. Firstly I love those flowers, congrats on growing those, they look amazing in front of your beautiful books. And secondly, I'm not your go to girl for nits. Our little household has had just the one outbreak so far (touch wood), and I just remember washing EVERY single bit of bed linen, and tonnes of fine tooth combing. Good luck! Poor little Frankie. Poor you! xx

  9. My Grannie used to grow Roses and Gerberas.
ONLY - roses and gerberas - I dunno why.
I'm too much of a sook to watch that movie - I'd be traumatized for weeks!

  11. Love those flamboyant Gerbies, Al, they are such show-offs. As soon as your back is turned, I reckon they'll jump out of the vase and do the can-can on your mantelpiece, just like wheelchair-bound Andy from 'Little Britain'!
Not having envy for you with the "nitty-scritches" in da house, poor little Frankie. Your local chemist is your man/woman, as is your washing machine and a sunny day. A stiff drink should help you - not Frankie - cope with the paranoia nits bring into the household. I remember it helped me way back when!
I'm also high on the sook scale for that movie. I'm finding 'Top of the Lake' disturbing enough at the moment.

  16. You grew these, awesome. I got a book about growing flowers for my birthday this week, I must get organised to get growing. Nitty gritty is the wonder nit comb's name and I rub a little Moroccan oil through my daughter's hair to prevent them coming back. It's worked so far. good luck, katie x
