high ho old silver!...

well here it is!!!
what do you think!
pretty stinkin cute right?!
this my friends is the result of an idea and an impulse when they run head on into each other....at full speed....and when under the influence of a vintage loving pal.....you know the type...the pal that eggs you on....go on buy it, its fab....yeah of course you need it!....no Nic wont mind at all, she will love it too!....how cute will we look in it!!!.(yes she said that!).
And you guessed it I didn't need much convincing.
We accidently found her for sale on a side street in Byron.....and one look at her and I was smitten. Even my mum fell in love!...now that's saying something. I think it was the nostalgic pull that got her.
there is work to be done but only cosmetic, and even that is minimal.....umming and arrghing about painting the interior.....but at the moment am spending days in her having morning tea and pretend camping with the kids (who adore it!)
it is parked at mums cause you know who buys a caravan without somewhere to put it.....well that`d be me!
the white wrought iron chair and wheelbarrow of flowers were placed within minutes by my mum.....and my step dad had the kitchen table out to take a little surface rust off before you could say "wanna cuppa?". hmmmm maybe not a good idea to park it there?.
that's a lychee tree to the left and a lemon tree to the right.....she is in good company.
She has already had overnight guests....my teenage niece and nephew were visiting and volunteered to test drive her......she got the thumbs up!.
Now I keep referring to her as a she but almost instantly she was christened "ol silver" after my dear old pop......and I cant wait to have the sign writer visit who is going to put his name up near the entry light....pride of place.!
Not sure how many road trips will be had but she is very roadworthy and registered so its definitely a possibility sooner rather than later. But I just have to get used to being a proud vintage caravan owner first....it was a surprise let me tell you.
You all guessed correctly of course.....gee I cant put anything past you can I?
and yes I will no doubt bore you senseless with photos galore.
your input is greatly needed by the way.....should I paint all the doors white.....try and brighten her up a bit?
I love the curtains but the backing on them is in a bad way.....what style to go for???.
oh I think for the moment im just going to sit and have that cuppa.
will keep you posted!!

Al xx

  2. Oh Al, of course you had to buy him!
I can't believe how utterly perfect he is - even down to that beautiful little flywire (and just look at that little indicator light!) You won't have to do a thing!
And of course, you've given him the loveliest name. Old Silver would be chuffed.
Feel free to bore us senseless - I think I'm in love!

  3. Wow … and double wow … I LOVE it. It is PERFECT.
I'd get some retro cherry print fabric … or something like it … for the curtains.
    TOO, TOO FABULOUS!!!

  10. Since I found myself locked out of your blog for 24 hours ("permission denied" and "open to invited readers only") I was certain this was just to tease me! Happily, after work tonight I tried again and Ol Silver blasted into my room, setting off the old A-Fib and a touch of Coronary Artery Spasm (OK, that might be an exaggeration). I AM SO FLIPPIN ENVIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everytime I sit down for a morning cuppa, I'll be wishing for a fat blowie to drop in your cuppa as you sit there like the cat that got the cream, relaxing in Ol Silver!
Seriously, Al, its a beauty and I'm so happy for you and the kidlets ... and Nic (when she finds out!). I wish you all many happy trips over hill and dale.
Those leafy curtains are just perfect, are they salvageable?
The other half asked for a hint for my belated birthday present ... guess what I'm going to suggest? Not holding my breath though.

    2. Yes, Al, plenty of room under some safe shady trees which are NOT the eucalypt "widow-maker" variety! Leave some space in Ol Silver for some Op shopping along the way.

  11. Oh Al. I love it too! Too cute with the yellow stripes and those fantastic curtains, can you put a backing on them somehow? Good luck towing it out of your mum's place, that thing looks like it's there to stay. Might need to make a maiden voyage up the hill though hey? PS: I don't mind the dark wood panels? Love that screen door!

  13. She is such a pretty old lady and looks perfect as she is! I wouldn't do anything only sitting and watching and planning her first road trip ;-)

  15. Oh my gosh!!!! It is beautiful!!!! You are one lucky ducky gal!!! I want I want but I'm so happy for you too:) Love that cute yellow and white awning too. I'm seeing yellow there in the future, somewhere but I just have to ponder awhile before suggesting colours. She's gorgy as is. Ohhhhhh so cute. i'd love one to take to markets like the gorgy Georgina from Perpetual One used to do with Sunny. Have you seen Sunny? If not, you must. You will love! have a wonderful weekend sipping tea in that gorgy caravan and dreaming up some wonderful plans xxxx

  16. Whatever you do, do not watch the film Sightseers. It has put me off caravans for life! (It's hilarious though.)

  19. Flipping heck! I could just cry, it's a beauty! The screen door, the studded seat covers, the awning. I'm so happy for you and super jealous at the same time. I can see him painted white inside with bright accessories, but you know I like his original look as well. My advise is take your time and have heaps of caravaning fun.

  21. I love vintage caravans. LOVE THEM! I have long harboured a dream to park one down the back of my (future) home, amongst the fruit trees, where kids can play house or grown ups can escape to read in peace with a cuppa in the afternoon sun. You are living the dream dude. So jealous ;-) Do keep us posted on Ol' Silvers adventures. Bx

  22. Ok so what did Nic say then??!! How brilliant...love the impulse thing eh..just like when I bought Lucy. Every day just gets better & better with her around. Help, I don't know what we'd do without her now. White would look great with the yellow eh..kind of fresh & sunshiney. Can't believe the lychee tree..how cool is that. You'll have loads of fun forever with Ol' Silver yay!! x0x0x
