bless you Mrs W...

I must admit it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. So much to choose from.
the going was slow. My friend V was such a sport and was telling me such wonderful tales of Mrs W`s op shopping garage saleing car booting adventures. I was almost hesitant to touch anything, I felt a weird mix of clumsiness excitement and rudeness????
Beautiful V picked up on that so the kettle was boiled , we sat on the brown & yellow 70`s couch (Fab!) and gas bagged for a bit about mums, death and.....well stuff.

im not usually a black and white fan...went through a B&W minimalist stage in the late 90`s...but colour won out in the end....and lets face it hoarders don't do minimalism too well!
but this trio won me over...so sleek and smart looking.

this little (its actually quite big) orange fatty caught my eye naturally. you cant quite see the white handle, but this orange is hands down my favourite colour

the red duo were a last minute addition by V....they are her favourites and she wanted me to have them....im in love. the reflection/mirror effect on them is amazing!

i love blue, adore blue, once had a house full to the brim with blue....but since moving away from the beach and into the hills im now filling my house with oranges browns yellows and greens.
however....these blue babies called my name.
this is my bedside table...and yes I always have this many books on the go

amber glass has always been a love of mine and I simply adore the glow.
this tall beauty was almost missed until a forgotten cupboard door was opened.
these pics of her in the afternoon sun are the real reason why we all love glass so much
just look at her sparkle!

this sweetheart was a nostalgic choice as my nan has one very similar in her dressing table.

this fab green WG piece was almost missed as well as V thought it rather ugly so it was in the kitchen boxed up with old jars etc. She showed me and said "pfft check this out!...how bloody ugly!".
Ummm? I kinda like it....think I lost a bit of cred with V but hey!

so there you have it....not a green brandy balloon in sight!. A few of you hoped id choose them but to be honest I was so bamboozled and emotional about it all that I drove home really not sure of what I had chosen.
V was so so generous and wanted me to take more but there was no need. Mrs W had an amazing collection and I was told the garage sale was a huge success.
V was happy that some of her mums things were going to a fellow vintage enthusiast and I will always think of her when I admire these beauties.

it did make me think about the day my kids will be clearing out my house???
skip...tip...garage sale...I suppose it wont really matter.

I`ll haunt them regardless!

hope everyone is having a good week
tell your mum you love her!

Al xx

im showin off over at Max`s

  2. What a lovely post, Allison, I understand your feelings and would have felt the same way about coming there to choose from her stuff. I think it's obvious, though, that your interest and appreciation is valued by her daughter. I just left my mom coming back from Stavanger, there's always tears involved...

  6. Great choices m'dear! I love that you'll always think of Mrs W when you admire her 'stuff' now on display in your home. I am constantly reminded of my Mum, my 2 Grandmas, various Aunts and Honorary Aunts now that much of their stuff ended up on my shelves. I also have the same thought, Al, what will my kids do with all this. At least you aren't as close to the 'finishing line' as I am!!!
Can't wait to see what was in today's haul, you said you struck Gold; the suspense is killing me. I also did a round Oppies this morning - a few nice pickings but I only struck wool and cotton, no gold!

    1. Me too. And how you appreciate them Al! That orange is fantastic, are you secretly Dutch?? And the blue is gorgeous too, am loving it all. My only question is how to you keep your treasures safe from the little people in your life? They wouldn't stand a chance here. xx
