i saw jesus at the oppy....

I saw jesus at the oppy and he came on home with me.
I have quite a thing for religious paraphernalia....not sure why. it seems to find me. even as a child Id always be finding little medals with saints and sunday school cards that other heathen children had discarded!. the imagery and colour and drama has always attracted me. lets face it its most likely the drama I love.....but religion (all religions) are a source of wonder.
I myself am not religious in any way or form but im almost envious of those who are. the dedication, the passion....admirable traits I simply do not have.

the sacred heart, the golden glow....even the dust and the moth casing on his back were signs that he belonged in our "sinful" abode.
maybe that's the attraction.....jesus and the lesbian living side by side.....wow if only this post could go there, it would be the length of the bible itself!....but sharing vintage finds is definitely not the time to be preaching the for`s and the against`s...the rights and the wrongs.
he looks glorious on my mantel and I hope he stays.
one day I must share my little collection with you.

this beautiful cake tin found me as well. a willow with just the right amount of shabby rose decal.
and big!

just a tease shot of this white crocheted beauty...its winging its way to someone who I think is pretty neat! (and who could pull off wearing it!)

glory be!...a new crochet granny for $8....in my favourite orange and just in time as its getting a little nippy some nights. I so wanted something to perk up the military grey of our couches and this does it perfectly.

a belt....yep a belt. one I will probably never wear but the pattern won me over....and it looks pretty resting on the tower of pink doyleys I found for $2.

I think I may have taken 5000 shots of my hallway trying to find the 1 2 or 3 that shows it best. it is my favourite room? in the house....probably cause it is always the tidiest.
it is decorated with oppy and market finds (shock!), my fave being the recent Olivetti addition ($3) and the 70`s flower print on the wall ($6)

I found the tall skinny mirror at a market last weekend...it has a sweet vintage swan decal at the bottom...it was $20 and I looove it.

the fat yellow birdcage was a Christmas present 100 years ago and it has travelled along with me wherever I go. it casts the best shadows onto the walls.
see that short skinny door on the right?...its a broom closet, but it goes in about 2 meters. its the spookiest thing...its pitch black in there and the door can only be opened from the outside.
the broom and the vaccy get tossed in there pretty quick as im petrified of getting stuck. the kids think its a great cubby....no doubt the day will come when they get stuck in there....hmmm maybe I  could get it soundproofed!!

its school holidays and so far so good.....the weather is great and we are having another warm spell so its been swimming and playing outside. I predict the wheels will start to wobble in the next few days as Charlie realises that school is still a way away.
but that's ok we are old hands at wheel wobbles now.
have a great week
im off to have a bit of a blog catch up
hands up if your sharing with max!

  1. That's one 'hell' of a find......
I saw a pair of cocks the other day at my local oppy. They were green roosters......so tempted.

  2. Ohhhh I've missed popping in and seeing your amazing finds.... that tin is stunning - love your painting above is it a Petyarre? Religious icons/figurines can be stunning but they kind of scare me at night, my Aunty has a hologram pic of the Shroud of Turin (yep, I said a hologram!) and it scared me for life but I must say I totally love Mexican religious folk art. xx Tina :)

  3. You soooo have the "gift" of finding amazing things. I love your hallway too. I'm not relgious either but I've always liked the look of that Mary lass, think it must be the white and blue frock that she wears. My sister collects crosses which spooks me. I'm very overdue for an op shop day. Shame you did'nt live nearer. A coffee and oppy day would be great and you could share your "gift" when it comes to great finds! xo

  4. He's a very nice jesus.
I'm not religious either but I reckon jesus was a fairly zen kinda dude.
And I reckon he'd like living at your house (even if you are a "sinner"!).

  5. I think your Jesus has a very nice face.....he doesn't look at all judgemental. I always say I have nothing at all against God....it's just "religion" that gets my back up :0)

  6. what a beautiful figurine, what is it made from? i've never been into the religious artifacts-too much 'fire and brimstone' talk at school made me a little afraid of some of the iconography, but that is a beautiful object regardless. great to have you joining in the linky thing again x

  8. Love those plaster religious statues! I have a few and always buy them when I see them. I also love vintage religious psalms that are framed. But I have to be careful- I don't want to appear to be a religious nutter! Your hallway has a typewriter like mine! x

  10. Your hallway is GORGEOUS. I love your arrangements. And that tall, thin mirror is pretty special - as is the Jesus figure, but I daresay that my partner would be horrified if I bought him.

  11. Loving the cake tin, am on a hunt for one myself. As for the Jesus, it makes me wonder about the person who donated it...is it bad for them because they gave Jesus away, or good for them because they are sharing the love, so to speak? Do they put a lot of thought into the donation, or do they just chuck it in the box? :) Heather

  13. I reckon Jesus would love hanging out at your place Al, good choice. Your hallway is great, can we discuss that table please? And the b/w artwork above? And the shoe lasts? You've got a great eye! Love it all. Hope Charlie enjoys his holidays, our wheels have been wobbling all week. Keep shopping xx

  14. Jeez, where've I been? (not to London to vist the Queen).
Absolutely loving the photography in this post, Al. So envious of your hallway, I miss having an entrance hallway. We have one leading to the bedrooms, but its so skinny we have to walk in single file! OK, we aren't stick insects, but Victoria Beckham would also find it a bit of a squeeze.
Your retro red rose tin fills me with nostalgia - it reeks of my Mum's kitchen. Buggered if I can remember what she had in that pattern .. guess I won't have to count sheep tonight ;)

  15. Oh, and I forgot to mention the guy in the red robe - I hope you did the nursey thing for his hands, looks like he's been nicked while pruning the roses!
