what do you do when you are asked the question "ive got an old rusted out birdcage in the shed...do you want it?"....well of course you promptly reply "does a bear poop in the woods?"
so sight unseen this little (big) beauty was delivered to my back patio (that's not code for anything by the way!)
isn't she all kinds of lovely. generous friend asked what I was going to do with it, to which I answered "I haven't a bloody clue, but I love her!"....deep down I knew all right but sometimes its best to save such generous friends from the reality of a vintage loving mind. you know the look you sometimes get...half surprise, half pity, and lets be honest a dash of distaste.
you see I somehow think that generous friend would have thought I was just a little bonkers.
where as I know you guys will just get it!....right?!...please tell me you get it!!
of course!...fill it with vintage linen!
you see she was beautiful before....now she is a stunner!...yes I know getting to those beautiful pieces of pre loved loveliness will prove challenging but im lazy patient so am happy to change them around every few months ( read most likely never - until I want that one on the very top to do something with!)
there is a bit a space left for me to find a little wooden bird swing plus birdie of course, the pretend kind!...don't worry I haven't completely lost it. my mums over for tea tonight , she will no doubt give me here honest opinion (and I wont listen!)
My kids are disappointed because they thought Rodney from "flushed away" was coming to stay, Frankie is determined her pet rat will live here.
I told her it would have to be a pretend one to which she replied "I don't do pretend".
This kid is 2 and a half.....lord help me!.
The school hols are on the downhill run....yee freakin har!!!
the cool change finally came.....(see above!)
im off shopping for a bird!...do they come in milk glass?
Axx

ReplyDeleteone day when my house grows up and stops being a toy barn...then I will show more...I can dream! x
DeleteOoooooer I LOVE it xx
ReplyDeleteOf course that's what you do with it....that's not even slightly bonkers :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous! Don't know who wouldn't get it!! x
ReplyDeleteLove the shape and the muted tones of the bird cage. Perfect with all those pretty vintage linens.
ReplyDeletex
HI Zara, the shape was really unexpected and a pleasant surprise, obviously from the wealthy bird neighbourhood! x
DeleteIt's the perfect size for your linens and in just the right colours with added character of rust. (I love rust!) Quite liking your landscape print too!
ReplyDeleteHi Tania...rust is the new black! x
DeleteI totally get it and wouldn't have refused either! Love the way you have stacked fabric in it. I'm sure I saw the picture behind it in a local charity shop today!
ReplyDeleteLiz @ Shortbread & Ginger
and you left the picture behind!...this is my "im Heidi in another life" picture....oh the places my goats and I go!! x
DeleteIt looks great, but would be lovely with a cockatiel therein, they are great pets!
ReplyDeleteUmmm how do I put this ?...when I was a kid my budgie met the ceiling fan....scarred for life!! x
DeleteThe linens look fabulous in there. I never in a million years would have thought to do that. You're a genius!
ReplyDeletegenius might be a bit of a push Dana....but I`ll take it! x
DeleteOoh la la! What a clever chicky you are. I would never have thought of it but it works.
ReplyDeletethanks Al...just been drooling over your holiday snaps!...I only think of these things cause I don't get out much!!...seriously! x
DeleteWere you a journalist in a previous life, Allison? I love that you have the knack of writing as if we were all sitting around on the front porch having a chat. You make me laugh with your hilarious comments.
ReplyDeleteThe fab birdcage reminds me of a shabby but desirable Sth Melbourne/Fitzroy terrace house. Nice to have the vintage sheets on display where they can 'breathe' and where you can enjoy looking at them; Who'da thought it?!!
P.S. Did you get the bird?
DeleteHi Suze...you flatter me!...its not talent just too much time having conversations in my head!. I hope one day we can hang out on the porch (or at the bar - not fussy!)
Deletex
honey I always get my bird!!....I`ll take a picture once shes settled in x
DeleteYes, porch & tea or bar and something stronger both sound good to me. Maybe we'll get to do both one day! Re the bird, I do hope you're not going to try stuffing poor Nic into that cage on her next return ;)
DeleteLove the cage, it looks great on your sideboard.
ReplyDeleteYep, I love it too, especially filled with linen. It looks so pretty Allison. Love those little unexpected finds, can't wait to see the bird!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely bird cage, I wouldn't be able to resist it either.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I would never have thought of putting vintage sheets in there - but I totally get it and love it. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous Allison, I have some birdcages too, I hung some paper birds in them that I cut out of an old map- so if you don't find one maybe you could make one!
ReplyDeleteI see an old antique looking bird cage and my heart melts!! And I too have no idea what I would do with one, but I need one!! And your idea is a delightful one! How gorgeous...
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend x
Cold, straight cute bird cage Allison! Oh lordy, am I looking forward to putting a lid on these school holidays too. Over it! ;)
ReplyDeleteCas x
Great work! I would of put the sherry and brandy in it! Where's the bird? xx
ReplyDeleteI would put that in my handbag and steal it ;O)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it.
Would you believe I also acquired a vintage birdcage this week although it's not as good as this one......I'm very envious.
Tania xx
