op shops & eye rolls!

last week i went a little further afield in my op shopping adventures and explored what the coastal metropolis of Ballina had to offer.....i managed to find six oppies, and they certainly didnt let me down. i dragged my mum along ( who does a lot of head shaking and announces "really?" alot whilst im squealing over a find ). mum, frankie and i had a ball. thanks Ballina we will return.

i may have danced a little when i saw this beautiful retro print....i knew instantly where it was going to live.

this awsomeness below provided the comedy factor for the day.....fitting it into the back of my car along with pram, artworks, small chest of drawers, christmas decorations, beachtowels and ahem...bags of things to donate to an oppy! oh and a child!......we both nearly peed our pants!...we got the giggles and just couldnt stop. there was no way this baby was getting left behind......lucky im good at jigsaws.....the hatch door was finally down & the Vinnies man was suitably impressed.....but....still two oppies left to visit ( yes my mum rolled her eyes at me! )

see what i mean....shes a beauty!..the Vinnies man said she came from a "frock shop".love her to bits....not sure if i should paint her or not....what do you think?.

the last two oppies didnt let me down.....by this stage mum opted to stay in the car with frankie. probably a good idea as there was more dancing !

Isnt this the sweetest .the artist is june m allen & she painted this in aug 46....the colours the subject the frame all just thrilled me (such an adrenalin junky pffftt!)....i have a serious problem with buying artworks lately.....they find me ,im sure of it!....does that happen to anyone else??. things move in cycles?.....or is it me?.....yes mum rolled her eyes at me again when i said this to her!.

ive always wanted a pink teapot......& a squirrel planter/whatnot thingy so it seems.....i actually snuck the squirrel into the car without mum seeing as the eye rolling was becoming a problem?! lol

the last but certainly not least oppy produced this thing of gorgeousness to the right....a perfect little 50`s Vernon Ward print in an ornate bakelite frame!.....more dancing!!
(no eye rolling on this one....mum loved it too! )....progress maybe....although she has opted out of the next oppy road trip. (due to eye strain! ).

i have heaps more to share....it really was a fun day. niccy loved all my finds, except the squirrel....haters!!
ive put a little self imposed ban on myself regarding op shopping (cant believe i just wrote that! ) but its time for a clean out!

enjoy whats left of the week.
Axx

  1. SCORE! What great finds. Love the mirror, I don't think it needs painting. People pay a lot of money for the faux 'shabby chic' look you know. You've got the real deal ;-)

  2. Love your mirror to bits. I would've moved heaven and earth to get her home too. Please don't paint her. And never mind the eye rolls, my whole family thinks my love of 'junk' is crazy. I think they're the nutso ones for buying everything new.

  3. You're a scream Allison! Ignore the eye-rolling and tch-tching from your Mum. My daughter behaves like that when I'm in the Oppies, too; it doesn't make one iota of difference, in fact I think it only feeds my frenzy!

Love the "June M Allen" painting, it is wonderful. Much envy for your pink anodised teapot, too.

  4. I love the mirror too, keep her shabby for sure. And the squirrel is a totally winner, how can your other half completely not love that squirrel? My husband is now over the eye rolling and actually finds things that I miss spotting, just takes a good 1-2 years to get them to that point. mel x
